The Press Council came in existence 2012. There was no press council as such in Edmonton. The formation of Press Council was conceived and executed by Mr. Ashok Gangwani.
The Press Council of Edmonton formed with the following founder Members Mr. Harjeet Sandhu, Mr. Laat Bhinder, Mr. Sanjay Patel, Mr. Ghansham Moolchandani, Late Mr. Syed Sherazi, MR. VIMAL VERMA, Mr. Prakash Patel.
Later on Mr. Marco Levytsky (from Ukrainian News), Mr. Karim, Ms. Mital Jani, Kanak Chamarty, Mr. Baljit Singh Lall, and many others were kind enough to join this organization to strengthen our motive to achieve our goals.
Late Hon’ble Gene Zwozdesky (Speaker of Alberta Legislature) gave his accent to be our Chief Parton.
Mr. Tariq Chaudhry – a well known Social Reformer also became our Hon’ble Patrron and guided us to do constructive activities.
Mr. Karnail Deol, President of Sikh Federation is our Honored Patron.
We are also thankful to Mr. Chander Mittal who also gave his accent to be our Honoured Patron.
Mrs. Anita Mittal a renowned artist – multi-talented Artist agreed to be our Honoured Patron.
Our Legend in Journalism – Mr. Gursharan Buttar was always there to guide us for doing what is to be done for the community. Mr. Karry Diotte became our honorary member. His Worship Amarjeet Sohi, Hon’ble Tim Uppal, Hon’ble Naresh Bhardwaj, Mr. Sohail Quadri, Mr. Peter Sandhu, Mr. Upinder Matharu – a great legendary Singer and various other dignitaries have helped Press Council progress.
The Press Council is active since last twelve years and has done extensive coverage of various events like Canada Day Celebrations, Elections in Edmonton, Celebration of 100th Year of Alberta Legislature.
Celebration of Pakistan Day, Celebrations of Republic Day of India. SAGE, Awards of Canada, Anniversary of Somalia. These coverage have been Republic Day of Japan, Development of Pipeline, and a vast spectrum of activities happening in Canada and we shared with various media of the world.
Press Council of Edmonton is active in bringing a bridge between personals of ethnic and main stream media. This Organization had some changes in membership. We have added more then 40 Members to our Council. We did many successful events like giving Awards to the
organizations who had helped during Fort Mcmurray Fire – COVID – Jasper Fire.
We have organized various cultural Events and programs, raising funds for Pakistan Relief. We organized event is to bring cultural awareness and Awards to organizations who helped during COVID and Achievers.
Press Council is committed to do constructive activities in the field of journalism. We treat the public with respect don’t just skim the surface.
We understand the intricacies of Govt. policies better. Our work is meticulous.
